Fashion and Global Warming
The Vicious cycle of Fashion and Climate Change
As the
second most polluting industry after oil, the Fashion industry has a direct
impact on the environment and so on climate change :
-chemical off-gassing in landfills à Choose organic and ethical fabrics !!!
-50% of the World’s textiles comes from petrochemicals à Avoid Polyester !!!
-The Leather Industry’s contributions to methane emissions à Go Vegan !!
-massive waste accross the industry à Recycle your clothes, buy less
but better quality !
-80% of a garment’s carbon footprint actually comes from the care of the
garment à Stop using machine dryers, learn
how to take care of your clothes (and 30°C is enough for all your clothes :D)
I didn’t
even talked about the transportation and the working conditions :
please, read the tags for the sake of the planet and the garment workers (in
Bengladesh, China, India and everywhere else the fast fashion is reigning !)
Since it’s the beginning of a new
year full of promises, you can pick any resolution from above to be part of the
solution :
start shopping ethical and sustainable !!
There are so
many brands and designers who have greener objectives ! Join the Sustainable
Fashion Movement : www.gatherandsee.com/the-gatherer/fashion-and-climate-change/
You can find
there a lot of eco-friendly designers such as August, Barocco, Edge of Ember,
Matt & Nat, P.I.C, MUD Jeans among others !!
The thing is, The Fashion industry impacts
on the Global Warming, which is changing the Fashion Industry…hence the purple title
.
Indeed we
have more and more transitional collections to adapt to the weather : we
truly live in a consumerist age so let’s turn to
the Slow Fashion where
there’s no progressive obsolescence of clothing because of stylistic norms !
As Coco Chanel once said : «
La mode se démode, le style jamais »
("Fashion changes, but styles endures".)
In other words, don't follow the (Fast) Fashion, find your own style!!!!
